New South Australian business fights loneliness, one card at a time

It’s now easier to spread kindness to people in a post-COVID world thanks
to a South Australian-first greeting card company which focuses on the
everyday rather than cookie cutter holidays.

Based in Moonta and Adelaide, Unseasoned Greetings is a unique country-city collaboration between former work colleagues turned business partners Jacqui Dean and Joe Nes. The online business, which launched in January this year, has more than 60 quirky cards in its range and will print a personalised message on the inside of the card and then post it directly to the recipient.

For co-creator Jacqui Dean, the initial concept for Unseasoned Greetings came to her when she felt loneliness and isolation while on maternity leave during the first COVID lockdown in 2020.

I desperately wanted to reach out to friends in a way that felt more special than a text or Facebook message. All of the digital ways to communicate just felt overused and meaningless”, said Jacqui.

Unseasoned Greetings addresses this. It’s a way to connect with loved ones that genuinely makes them feel special because personalised snail mail is so rare these days.”

The humorous and sometimes naughty cards have been created for every life occasion – congratulating a loved one on leaving an awful job, remembering fun times and travel, or just reminding a friend that they’re special.

From the outset, Jacqui and Joe wanted Unseasoned Greetings to be a business with a strong social conscience that addressed relevant issues, specifically loneliness. One in four Australians are experiencing loneliness, a recent report from KPMG and the Groundswell Foundation has found.

We’ve developed a partnership with ReachOut Australia where we donate 50 cents from every card sold to help support young Australians experiencing loneliness,” says Co-Founder Joe Nes.

In an increasingly digital world, Australians are feeling more disconnected than ever and we’re realising that love and belonging are just as important to humans as food, water and shelter. Our mission as a business is to create genuine connections and more happy moments.”

The full range of cards can be viewed here. All cards are available for $8.95, which includes a personal message inside the card and postage direct to the recipient.
